For sale here is a rare and beautiful 1st model H.L. Leonard Bimetal fly reel made by Philbrook & Paine. Excellent original condition, featuring a bronze frame with contrasting nickel silver side plates, spool & cross pillars. The backplate is engraved with the original owner's name and a date of 1886.The smooth bronze foot is unaltered, although the same owner's name is lightly etched into the bottom. The reel shows signs of use over the last 140 years, but wears it well and remains in nice mechanical shape. Slight LHW bias. Weight is 4.66oz and measures 2.51" across the pillars 2.20" diameter not including the raised pillars. A worthy collection to any reel collection, or an ideal pairing for an early H.L. Leonard trout rod. Sold in a modern neoprene pouch
