Their crowned, grooved bells sit above short, sturdy tentacles, arranged in warm browns, reds and ambers against a shadowy background so that they seem to hang suspended in the deep. There is a richness and weight to these medusae that sets them apart from his paler jellyfish studies. The illustration is part
