Footnote: From the 1850's through the 1870's, "Canada Militia" insignia existed as a generic emblem for various volunteer rifle battalions. It usually included the beaver in the centre, surrounded by the words "Canada Militia" surmounted by a QVC, and often incorporating a wreath of maple leaves as well.
