A die stamped bronze gilt badge, in a horizontal rectangular shape with rounded off top corners, the obverse centre illustrates the portrait of Franz Joseph I superimposed over a plaque, above the engraved inscription VIRIBUS UNITIS, directly above the portrait is the inscription 2. ARMEE, at the base of the badge are two leaf motifs, behind the portrait plaque is an Alpine scene containing soldiers with rifles, enclosing the scene
