at the age of 81 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery
Third badge is sterling silver with blue enamels
" typed in front of the inscription "Ergebenst überreicht vom Japaninstitut" (Respectfully Presented by the Japan Institute) in black ink
including a photo of Maier in a German Red Cross (DRK) uniform

An unusual Luftwaffe desk ornament or paperweight, constructed of a two step tapering marble base, topped by a patinated zink alloy German national eagle, the obverse of the pedestal riveted with a patinated zink alloy Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, flanked by a silvered edelweiss, the base featuring a partially intact green felt liner to mitigate surface scratching, unmarked, measuring 10 cm (w) x 6 cm
